  1. "Hoot" by: Carl Hiaasen

The genre of this fantastic, fun-filled book is realistic fiction. I know this because real people go on protest and real animals are endangered. This book is about a mysterious boy named Mullet Fingers who tries to save endangered owls from a pancake house. Mullet Fingers got his nickname from his stepsister, Beatrice Leep, because he can catch a mullet (a slippery fish) with his bare hands. Beatrice lives with her grouchy stepmother, and her lazy father. The main characters in this book are Beatrice Leep, Mullet Fingers, Roy Eberhardt, Curly, and Officer Delinko. My opinion on the book is that it is an exciting book to read filled with thrilling adventures that will keep you going until the end! I would recommend this book to people of all ages because it will keep you wondering what will happen next. Will Mullet Fingers save the owls? Will the owls die? Find out in this amazing book!

  2. “Hoot” by Carl Hiaasen.
The book, “Hoot”, is a very good book. It’s almost like a mystery but it’s not, it’s Realistic Fiction. I would know because it could have happened but it didn’t. In the book, “Hoot”, the new kid Roy is trying to save the owls at Mother Paula’s. They’re trying to expand the business, but it will make the owls have to make a new habitat. So Roy and his friend Mullet Fingers are trying to put a stop to destroying the owl’s habitat. Mullet Fingers though is doing illegal stuff to Mother Paula’s property and he could get in a lot of trouble for doing that stuff. So Roy is trying to save the owls without having to worry about bullies. The main characters in the book are Roy, Dana, Mullet Fingers, and Beatrice. My opinion of the book is it’s very good because it’s a book that has plenty of action and is a good book to think about. I recommend this book to people because people need to read more books so they can get smarter and this is a book you need to think about. Also I recommend that 4th graders and up should read this book. So read this book and see how good it is.

  3. The book I’m reading is called Hoot the author is Carl Hiaasen. I think everyone should read this book because it’s really funny, and gets you interesting like I mean is that it keeps you reading and never stop. One example that it’s really funny is one time that some people put some alligators in the potty. It’s also interesting like one time that Officer Delinko found a baby owl in a dark hole, and you feel like wanting to read more the book and find out what is going to happen next. You wonder why people put the alligators in the potty, and what will Officer Delinko do with the baby owl.

  4. The book “Hoot” is a realistic fiction book because I know that people can try to save owls and protest against somebody building over the owl’s homes. The main characters are: Roy, Mullet Fingers, Beatrice (Mullet Fingers brother), Dana (the bully), Curly (a construction worker), and Officer Delinko (a police). In “Hoot”, Carl Hiaasen creates a very fascinating and interesting character named Roy. One day, Roy see’s a boy running with no shoes, so he decides to follow him. Roy finds out that the future site of the Mother Paula’s All American Pancake House is going to be built over a bunch of burrowing owls homes. He is determined to stop the Mother Paula’s construction workers from building over the owl’s homes. I think that “Hoot” is a great book to read because it includes many suspenseful details that leave the reader hanging. I would recommend this book to children or adults because it is about saving the earth, and working together.

  5. Hoot by: Carl Hiaasen

“Hoot” by: Carl Hiaasen is an excellent realistic fiction that anyone who cares about and would protest for something they believe in. I think the genre is realistic fiction because it could happen in real life. People protest to save animals that will get squished by bulldozers. All the time construction sites buy land that have animals on it so “Hoot” is realistic fiction. “Hoot” has a lot going on but it is exciting and hilarious. One day as Roy is riding the bus a bully, named Dana, chokes him and shoves his face against the window. As he looks out the window Roy sees a boy running, but towards but AWAY, from the school bus! Naturally, Roy chases him and gets caught. There are a lot of main characters. Roy is a boy who moved from Montana because of his dad’s job. He helps to protest for animal rights. Beatrice is someone people fear for her strength but, she is really a loving caring stepsister. She also protests. Curly is a bald man with an angry boss who wants construction done. Curly is the construction site manager. The running boy is also a protester who plays funny pranks on the construction site to stop them from building. Officer Delinko is a police officer who has to capture the prankster (running boy) to become the private investigator he wants to be. My opinion of why I love “Hoot” is because of after every chapter you end up wondering what will happen next. It’s hilarious because of all the things the protesters did. I’d recommend this book to anyone who has a sense of humor and is willing to stand up for what they believe in. Who is the running boy? Will the protesters go to jail? Will the construction site stop building? Will the animals live? Read the amazing book, “Hoot” to find out!

I would recommend it to 6th graders because I think they would be interested in Hoot. Will Roy find out why mullet fingers in always running, and what he is up to? 7. The book “Hoot” by Carl Hiaasen is a fantastic book to read. The book “Hoot” is a realistic fiction book because people in the world can protest and save land and animals. Also because people illegally build on top of important habitats. In the book a boy named Roy moves to Coconut Cove Florida from Montana because his dad’s job transfers him. As soon as Roy gets there he makes an enemy, Dana Matherson. Roy also meets a boy nicknamed Mullet Fingers who is trying to save some burrowing owls from construction. Along the way Roy and Mullet fingers run into some big trouble. The main characters in this book are, Roy, Mullet Fingers’ Officer Delinco, Curly, Mr. and Mrs. Eberhardt, and of course the owls. My opinion of the book is that it is a great book because it has a lot of adventures and action. I also liked it because it has some pretty funny parts in it. "Hoot"
    By: Carl Hiaasen

The book "Hoot" is a realistic fiction book because the problem could happen in real life. Hoot is about a company named Mother Paula’s Pancake House who tries to build a restaurant in Coconut Cove Florida. But the only problem is that they picked a place to build where an endangered owl population lives. Now the fight is up to bulldoze over the owls or to stop Mother Paula’s right in their tracks. Some of the main characters are Roy, who is trying to save the owls, Mullet fingers, who is trying to save the owls, Beatrice, Mullet Fingers step-sister. Some other characters are Dana, who is a bully, Officer Delinko, who is a cop, and finally Curly, who supervises the construction site. The book "Hoot", is very exiting and full thrilled. It is also suspenseful and real life at the same time. I would recommend this book because it teaches people to stand up for what is right. I would recommend this book to people 5th grade and up.

Finally, Roy gets Dana in trouble at the construction site. The main characters of “Hoot” are Roy Eberhardt, Curly, Dana Matherson, Officer David Delinko, Beatrice Leep, and Mullet Fingers. This book will warm your heart on cold, stormy winter nights. This is a realistic fiction book that our generation has been waiting for! I know because everything can actually probably happen. A new kid in school, named Roy, is often getting the beating of a life time by the school bully, Dana. One time on the bus Dana pressed Roy’s head against the window. But, during this, however, Roy saw a mysterious boy running away from the bus with no shoes or socks, and no backpack. He goes by the name of Mullet Fingers and says that he is responsible for the vandalisms and he just wants to save the owls. The main characters are Roy, Mullet Fingers, Beatrice, Dana, Curly, and officer Delinko. I am really enjoying this book because Roy and Mullet Fingers would go and do the stupidest things just to save these small adorable owls. I would recommend this book to people of all ages because this is truly an awesome book to read. What will happen to the owls? Protect them from what? If you really want to know, READ THE BOOK!

Hoot is an amazing Newbery Honor book writen by Carl Hiaasen author of "Flush" , "Scat", and now the realistic fiction book "Hoot". In this book Roy chases the "running boy" a very serious protester he saw looking out of the bus window. After he chases him he is caught and turned loose, but the next day at school he meets a soccer player ,Beatrice Leep, who tells him to stay away from the "running boy". After he decides to go back to his hideout with a pair of shoes but he finds it deserted when he leaves BEatrice finds him and asks him why he's bringing shoes to the running boy and he says he doesn't know and when he gives the shoes to her she tells him she's the running boys brother. After meeting the running boy or Mullet Fingers he realizes he is the one who has been vandalizing a local construction site because they are burying owls dens then Roy decides to join. The main charecters are Roy, Beatrice, Mullet Fingers, Officer Delinko, Curly, and Chuck Muckle This is an adventerous book because of it's protests and it's enviormental image for trying to save the owls. I recommend this book because of it's ecofriendly message I think this book is suitable for all people 3rd grade and higher.

  14. Hoot by Carl Hiaasen

The book Hoot by Carl Hiaasen is and fantastic realistic fiction book that you will never want to put down. It is about a teenage boy named Roy that gets himself into more than he asked for. He begins at a normal day of school but it turns out to end with his head slammed up against the window of the bus with two large fingers digging into his temple. :( but that led to the most intense time of his life when he had to figure out and get all the details of what he saw when he looked out the window. Mother Paula’s pancake house is a very famous restaurant to eat at but do they really care about the environment and ANIMALS that have homes on their property? No they don’t. With the construction that they are about to start begins to be delayed by one boy who cares about the animals and their homes getting destroyed in the construction. Nobody knows who he is but he has seriously delayed and may stop the construction. Who is the boy? What happened to Dana? Are the animal’s homes going to be destroyed? Those are all questions that you have to find out by reading this book. My opinion of this book is that I never wanted to set the book down the second I picked it up… there is so much suspense that I had to find out the end. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves suspense and likes to be apart of books that have characters that will fascinate you like Curly, Roy, Beatrice, Officer Dolinko, Mullet Fingers, and Dana.

  17. Hoot by Carl Hiaasen

The book “Hoot” is a funny and exciting book. The genre of the book “Hoot” is realistic fiction because the events that happen in the book could really happen in real life. For example, people protest all the time about stuff they don’t approve of what that person or group of people is doing. Another example is that there are really bullies out there that are mean and aggressive towards other kids. This book is about when a boy named Roy Eberhardt moves to Coconut Cove, Florida. He finds out that it is full of adventure. Roy becomes the target of a bully called Dana Matherson at Trace Middle School. But Roy is more concerned about what’s going to happens to the running boy and who is vandalizing the Mother Paula’s Construction site. The running boy found out that there are burrowing owl dens where the birds are living. So he, Beatrice, and Roy do everything they possibly can to make sure they save those owls. The main characters in this book are Roy, who helps mullet fingers, Beatrice, who is helping Roy, The running boy (mullet fingers), who is protesting against the owls, Dana, who is the school bully, Officer Delinko, who is the patrol man on duty, and finally Curly, who is the supervisor of the Mother Paula’s Construction site. My opinion of the book is that it is great, enjoyable, fun and full of adventure that will make you want to keep reading. I would recommend this book to anybody who likes funny, and adventure filled books because this book is full of surprises that u might not expect. When u read Hoot u will find out all the surprises and what really happens to the birds.

  18. HOOT
    By Carl Hiaasen

My opinion of HOOT is that it is a brilliantly planed out book. I found that out when I couldn’t put the book down. This book is about a boy named Roy Eberhart who now lives in the Everglades. He gets bullied by Dana Matherson who parents; well . . . let’s just say they weren’t much of em’. Roy see’s a strange boy running one day, and he turns out to be one of his greatest friends, along with Beatrice, who’s the stepbrother of the running boy, Mullet Fingers. Together, they try to stop the mother Paula’s construction on an owl habitat, but try to get stoped by cops, construction workers, and other people too! The genre of HOOT is realistic fiction because the owls are real, people do do construction on places where wildlife lives, they destroy their natural habitats, and people do protest. That and none of the events that happened in this book actually happened in real life. The main characters in this book are: Roy Eberhart, Dana Matherson, Beatrice, Mullet Fingers, Officer Delinko, and Officer Muckle, Roy’s parents, and Garret. I recommend this book tob people all ages, and people who enjoy adventure, suspense, and comedy. So many questions will flow through your mind when you read this book. Who’s Mullet Fingers? Why does Dana hate Roy? Will they save the owls? Find out in Hoot.

I also recommend this book because its funny and mysterious. Carmen

  22. Hoot is an all time classic book and it is filled with amazing writings. I like how the author Carl Hiaasen expresses the character's moods. I love how Roy goes on a quest to figure out who the runnunig boy with no shoes is. Then Roy figures out that it is Beatrice B's step brother Mullet finger's who is trying to save the endangered owl's from being destroyed. I also like how Mullet Finger's vandalized the spot where Old Mother Paula's Pancake house is going to be. Roy is one of my favorite character's in the book because he love's to try to help out his friends. I also like how he punches Dana Matherson in the face and breaks his nose. I recommend this book to kids that are in 4th to 6th grades because it is an accelerated book. I hope that you loved the book as much as I did because it is so fascinating what they do to save the endangered owl's.

  23. Hoot

My book report is on Hoot by Carl Hiaasen. The story takes place at Florida. One main location in Florida was at Roy’s school. Roys school is big and expansive. This is like any other school with classrooms and bullies. Another main location is at Mother Paula’s, a construction site where a pancake house is being built. This is a flat dirt path with bulldozers and other construction equipment. The era is modern because there are cars, bulldozers, and computers. About four months have passed from the beginning of the book to the end, since at the start of the book he was starting school, and now he is half way through it. The main characters are Roy Eberhardt, Beatrice Leep, and Mullet Fingers. Roy is small, scrawny, and has black hair. He is in 7th grade and is 13 years old. He is also very funny. Mullet Fingers is tall, skinny, strong, and fast. He has black hair. Mullet Fingers is independent and stubborn. Roy and Mullet Fingers are friends. Beatrice Leep is also strong, mean looking, and tall. She is mostly friendly but fierce to her enemies. Beatrice and Mullet Fingers are brother and sister, and Roy and Beatrice are also friends. The genre is realistic fiction because it involves realistic characters doing things that may happen.

Roy Eberhardt is the new kid in town, and its just his luck that he makes an enemy right as he reaches. Dana Matherson, his school bully. But surprisingly, he actually helped Roy once. On bus ride home Dane had sneaked up on Roy and smashed his head against the window, and he then saw a strange boy running faster than he ever saw anyone run. Roy tries to leave the bus intrigued by the running boy, but Dana viciously chokes him. He escapes after punching Dana in the face, and then exiting the bus. But Roy can't catch the running boy because a golf ball hits Roy in the head. The school suspends him from the bus for two weeks and orders Roy to write an apology to Dana. Roy calls for a truce, but Dana refuses to accept. A cafe called Mother Paula's All-American Pancake House decides to build a franchise in Coconut Cove, but vandalism delays the work. Roy learns the running boy is the trespasser vandalizing the pancake house, known as "Mullet Fingers". Then they become friends. Mullet Fingers vandalizes and delays construction to save an endangered species, the burrowing owls that live on the construction site. The construction foreman denies the owls existence. Roy helps Mullet Fingers prove that there are owls and tells his class about the owls, and how construction will kill the endangered species, and tells them to join him stop the pancake house from being built. Roy and his classmates attend the gala groundbreaking ceremony and expose the truth. This saves the owls and their habitat.

I liked the book because it was full of surprises and action. My favorite part was when they exposed the pancake house and the construction site got shut down. My least favorite part was at the beginning of the book because that was when the narrator was talking about Roy, and that was not as action packed as the rest of the book. My favorite character was Mullet Fingers because when he believed something he never gave up believing in it. My least favorite character was Dana because he bullied many people and hurt them too. I think the moral of the story is follow your heart or your mind because whenever Roy, Mullet Fingers, or Beatrice believed they could do something they did it. I would recommend this book to people who like stories about animals, and people helping save animals. I think that the age group recommended to read Hoot is nine years or older.
